Erityisesti tenorisaksofonin salat taitava säveltäjä-tuottaja Kamasi Washington on noussut nopeasti yhdeksi jazz-piirien valovoimaisimmista tähdistä, jonka lahjakkuutta on ehditty lainata jo useammalle albumille. Kalifornian Inglewoodista kotoisin oleva Washington on tehnyt yhteistyötä esimerkiksi Gerald Wilsonin, Herbie Hancockin, Lauryn Hillin, Nasin, Snoop Doggin, George Duken, Chaka Khanin ja Raphael Saadiqin kanssa. Washingtonin tyylitaituruutta on päästy kuulemaan esimerkiksi jazz-vaikutteisella Flying Lotusin ”You’re Dead!” ja hip hop -suuruus Kendrick Lamarin kehutulla ”To Pimp A Butterfly” -albumilla.
Alkuvuodesta Kamasi Washington julkaisi ensimmäinen oman albuminsa ”The Epic”, joka on noussut nopeasti tämän vuoden hypetetyimmäksi jazz-levyksi Yhdysvalloissa myös jazz-piirien ulkopuolella. Liki kolmituntinen ”The Epic” on päässyt mm. Rolling Stonessa vuoden parhaimpien levyjen listalle jo nyt ja saanut Spin-lehdessä 10/10-arvion. Albumilla mukana kymmenmiehisen yhtyeen lisäksi 32-henkinen jousiorkesteri sekä 20-päinen kuoro.
