Yksi kaikkien aikojen arvostetuimmista jazzkitaristeista, jo 70-luvulta asti aktiivisesti levyttänyt amerikkalainen Pat Metheny saapuu keväällä Suomeen. Vastikään Downbeat Hall of Fameen nimitetty Metheny konsertoi Helsingissä, Finlandia-talolla, keskiviikkona 17. toukokuuta yhdessä rumpali Antonio Sanchezin, basisti Linda Oh’n ja pianisti Gwilym Simcockin kanssa. Konsertin lipunmyynti käynnistyy Ticketmasterissa maanantaina 12. syyskuuta.
Toukokuisessa konsertissa on luvassa laaja valikoima Pat Methenyn musiikkia tämän pitkän uran varrelta. Metheny saa seurakseen lavalle yhden maailman parhaimmista jazzrumpaleista, aikaisemminkin yhteistyötä Methenyn kanssa tehneen Antonio Sanchezin. Bassoa soittaa New Yorkissa sensaatioksi noussut malesialais-australialainen Linda Oh ja pianoa hehkutettu brittiläinen Gwilym Simcock.
”Luvassa voi olla oikeastaan mitä vain. Pidän ideasta, että pysytään avoimina. Antonion, Lindan ja Gwilymin kanssa me voimme soittaa - ja soitammekin - laajalla skaalalla ja monipuolisesti”, kuvailee Pat Metheny.
Pat Metheny tunnetaan ennen kaikkea erittäin taidokkaasta ja monipuolisesta soittimen käsittelystään. Kitaristivelholle on myönnetty uransa aikana huikeat 20 Grammya, viimeisin vuonna 2013. Metheny vieraili Suomessa viimeksi keväällä 2014 Unity Group -yhtyeensä kanssa.
